Description
A quick, 5-minute breakfast drink featuring strong cold brew, homemade salted caramel sauce, and a rich, frothy cold foam topping. It offers a gourmet cafe experience at home for a fraction of the cost.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups strong coffee or cold brew
- 1 cup milk of choice (whole, almond, oat, or soy)
- ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half (for foam)
- 2–3 tablespoons simple syrup
- 2–3 tablespoons homemade salted caramel sauce
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- Ice cubes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for foam)
- Pinch of cinnamon (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Make the salted caramel sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ½ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup butter, and 2 tablespoons heavy cream. Stir until melted and dissolved, then simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in ½ teaspoon salt. Cool.
- Prepare the coffee: Pour 1 cup of cold brew or chilled strong coffee over ice cubes in a tall glass.
- Sweeten the base: Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup and 1 tablespoon of salted caramel sauce to the coffee. Stir well and adjust sweetness/saltiness to taste.
- Make the cold foam: In a small bowl, combine ½ cup heavy cream, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon salted caramel sauce. Whisk vigorously for 30-60 seconds until thickened and holding soft peaks.
- Assemble the drink: Pour the remaining milk into the coffee. Slowly pour the cold foam over the back of a spoon onto the surface of the drink.
- Serve immediately: Drizzle with remaining caramel sauce and sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Enjoy within 10 minutes for best texture.
Notes
Ensure cream is very cold for best foam results. Do not over-whisk or it will turn into butter. Use coffee ice cubes if using hot coffee to prevent dilution. Caramel sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
